Managing Partner (New Zealand)
Stephen Cozens

(BE  (Hons), MBA (Fin))

Stephen has over 25 years of investment banking experience, specifically focused on industry advisory, valuation, mergers and acquisitions, capital raising and private equity. Stephen’s key strength lies in identifying value creation strategies to exploit material synergies to deliver high return transactions (both buy and sell side) for strategic corporates and / or investors.

 

Stephen spent 10 years with Credit Suisse First Boston and Deutsche Bank including as a Director of Equity Research (rated number one in Food, Beverage, Forestry, Agriculture, Chemicals and Retail) before moving to investment banking and undertaking New Zealand’s largest on-market takeover. Stephen then established a boutique investment bank covering New Zealand and Asia focusing on the Food and Beverage, Commodities and Financial Services sectors. Stephen also undertook a period of government advisory in Singapore assisting New Zealand companies to internationalise within the South-East Asia region. In this capacity, Stephen worked with the region’s largest strategic corporates, funds and investors.

Brad Rickard

Brad is Cranleigh’s Australian Partner based in Sydney. He is focused on providing advice on mergers and acquisitions to public and private businesses drawing on a broad range of transaction and corporate experience.
 

During his time with Cranleigh Partners Brad has advised clients in our focus industries of food, beverages and agriculture.
 

Brad’s strength lies in being at the ‘coal face’ of corporate activity in our sectors; identifying and delivering on M&A opportunities for existing and new clients, leveraging our industry knowledge and the Asia Pacific network of our firm.
 

Prior to Cranleigh, Brad held roles with Rio Tinto and Deloitte and worked on a range of assignments that included Rio Tinto’s acquisition of an ASX listed and African based miner, greenfield investments and divestments within Rio Tinto’s Australian coal business and holding responsibility for Rio Tinto’s Queensland pastoral and tenement portfolio.

David Walker

David has over 30 years of professional advisory and investment banking experience in Asia-Pacific, Europe and South America in the forestry, forest products, pulp, paper and packaging and renewable energy industries, focused on strategy, M&A, and financial structuring advisory.

 

In 2010, he founded his own advisory Firm, Kauri Capital, providing strategic and M&A advisory services.   

 

Prior to establishing Kauri Capital, David was head of global forestry, pulp, paper and packaging at Macquarie Capital and prior to that, President of Poyry in Asia-Pacific, Chairman of Poyry Capital, and global head of Poyry Consulting, the world’s leading forest products industry consulting and engineering firm. In January 2013, he was also appointed CEO of Chandler Corporation, the private investment firm of Mr. Richard Chandler.

John Crawford

(BSc, BE (Hons), MBA)

John is a senior executive with substantial advisory and management experience across both the public and private sectors. He has in-depth commercial expertise across a variety of industry sectors, particularly the electricity and telecommunications industry, substantial capital markets and IPO experience and trade and investment facilitation.

 

John’s advisory experience also includes resolving complex commercial issues, corporate strategy, corporate finance, public policy, business case development, enhancing business performance and large-scale project management. John has also held the roles of Regional Director - Auspac, NZ Trade and Enterprise and Director Australia, Investment New Zealand based in Sydney.

 

John’s recent experience includes Deputy Secretary, New Zealand Treasury, governance-related roles which included the Appointments and Governance function advising Ministers (of Finance and SOEs) on director appointments to 30+ commercial Boards (including all SOEs). He also led the team that prepared and implemented the Government’s Mixed Ownership Model / Share Offer program. John was also an advisor to the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
